Standard Type and Weight Categories: Brinecured Hides
The standard weight categories are for unfleshed hides. Weight ranges are often varied according to individual sale requirements. The following groupings are the weight categories in common use for unfleshed hides

Selection:
(a) Sounds - A Sound hide has no cuts in the Prime but may have up to three cuts in the Offal.
(b) Cuts - A Cut has up to three Cuts in the Prime and/or over three Cuts in the Offal. A hide containing more than three Cuts in the Prime is down graded.
A Cut is not classified as such unless a hole is penetrating through the skin. Flay marks which do not penetrate are not classfied as Cuts.
(c) Faulties - Faulty hides include those with hairslip, poor cure and/or gross defects such as warts, excessive brands, large or multiple horn marks or excessive holes or misshapen distorted or amputated patterns.
